Wrapping up

Well what an adventure it was! We'd planned for 11 months away and ended up with 16 and a bit! In total we travelled about 53,000km and the car scarcely missed a beat! We have seen some incredible parts of Australia, but most importantly we've had really valuable family time together while doing it.

 

Our favourite camping spots would have been:

• South Mossman, Qld
• Coen, Qld
• Gregory River, Qld
• Inverleigh, Vic
• Galvans Gorge (Gibb River Rd), WA  
  
• Manning Gorge (Gibb River Rd), WA 
  

Places we particularly wouldn't rush back to would be:

• The Wheatbelt region, WA (except for the town of York)
• The Tanami Rd, WA/NT
  
• The Oodnadatta Track, SA
  

In a sense, all the smiling photos sometimes felt a bit fake - at times there were disagreements, friction, tension, all probably to be expected when you're all in a small space, but when you don your plastic smiles for a selfie while in the middle of some kind of tension it felt a bit artificial. I guess I just wanted to say that to help add some perspective. Travelling doesn't suddenly fix problems. Nonetheless it's helped us learn more about ourselves and each other, and we are all very thankful we had the opportunity to do this trip and have enjoyed sharing it with you.

I for one will be delighted not to have to be writing this blog anymore! You'd be aware it's been out of date from time to time, but it's been a real challenge to stay on top of. I'm looking forward to just living life without feeling the need to document our movements each day. Of course we were doing it mainly so we had a record of things and I'm very glad we've got that. It will just be nice not to have to anymore.
